Baseball Recap: Tempe Prep Comes Up Short

Tempe Prep extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-13. They came up short against the ALA - Mesa North Mavericks, falling 12-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 last Wednesday.

Will Drescher was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for ALA - Mesa North, the win got them back to even at 9-9. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On ALA - Mesa North's side, Kingston Glidewell looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Glidewell is becoming a predictor of the Mavericks' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, ALA - Mesa North got a massive performance out of Ace Stinnett, who went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave Stinnett a new career-high. Josh Vasquez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with six stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Tempe Prep will challenge Santa Cruz Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dust Devils will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for ALA - Mesa North, they will face off against Round Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Elks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Mavericks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
