Volleyball Recap: Elizabeth Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Elizabeth can now relate to. They came up short against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks on Saturday, falling 3-0. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

While Elizabeth was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Cheyenne Mountain's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-22.

Elizabeth's offense was headlined by Halli Connelley and Campbell Dickman, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Ann Jones and her ten assists. Finally, Connelley was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Among those leading the charge was Jera Rodriguez, who had 16 assists and five digs. She has been hot, having posted 13 or more assists the last six times she's played.

Elizabeth's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their record is now an identical 14-10.

Coincidentally, Elizabeth and Cheyenne Mountain will both be playing Glenwood Springs the next time they take the court. The Cardinals will head out to face the Demons at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Red-Tailed Hawks will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
