Basketball Game Preview: Bentley Phoenix vs. Drew Dragons

The Bentley Phoenix are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Drew Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Drew took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Bentley, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Bentley took their contest with ease, bagging a 68-37 victory over Oakland Military Institute. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Phoenix had established a 29-point advantage.

Drew had taken Wallenberg down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Dragons fell 52-47 to the Bulldogs.

Bentley will have to keep a close watch on Lukas Wrobel and Charlie Leu, a pair of players who had a big impact on Drew's prior game. Wrobel dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Leu dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards. Leu is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Niko Hakkinen also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Bentley has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 65.0 points this season. As for Drew, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Bentley was dealt a bruising 62-28 loss at the hands of Drew in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
