The Oak Grove Tigers will challenge the Hueytown Golden Gophers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Grove has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Oak Grove is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Hanceville on Tuesday. Oak Grove walked away with a 14-11 victory over Hanceville.
Rowan Wilson was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. Another player making a difference was Ava Brand, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Hueytown hadn't done well against Sumiton Christian recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Hueytown came out on top against Sumiton Christian by a score of 9-6. While the Golden Gophers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Bryanna Kemp made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. Kemp was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Melton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Leah Cottingham was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Hueytown pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
