Baseball Game Preview: Coal Ridge Titans vs. Basalt Longhorns

For the second straight game, Coal Ridge will face off against Basalt. The Titans will be playing at home against the Longhorns at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Coal Ridge knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Basalt likes a good challenge.

On Wednesday, Coal Ridge got the win against Basalt by a conclusive 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Jakson Slade, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coal Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in ten consecutive games.

Coal Ridge pushed their record up to 14-2-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.2 runs over those games. As for Basalt, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Coal Ridge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
