Football Recap: University Piles Up the Points Against Preston

University won the last time they faced Preston and things went their way on Friday too. The Hawks blew past the Knights, posting a 49-13 win. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won three games by 36 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Harrison Helbig, who threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (148.2). Hayden George was Helbig's top target, picking up 114 receiving yards and one score.

University was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was University's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Ryder Hastings with three. Hastings is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Glenn Brown was another major factor on D, making two total tackles and defending seven passes in addition to snagging two interceptions.

Despite the loss, Preston still got an impressive performance from Kaleb Stone, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 42 yards. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 58 yards.

University is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Preston, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

University wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 21-0 loss against Morgantown on the 31st. As for Preston, they have also already played their next game, a 60-57 defeat against Buckhannon-Upshur on the 31st.
