Baseball Recap: Chelmsford Comes Up Short

Chelmsford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Haverhill Hillies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered against the Hillies since June 3, 2021.

Chelmsford got a good showing from Sean Whalen, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Whalen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Chelmsford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Duggan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Chelmsford's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Haverhill, they moved to 4-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Chelmsford will head out to square off against Billerica Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Haverhill, they will venture away from home to challenge Lowell at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
