Preview: Hi-Plains Patriots vs. Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates
The Hi-Plains Patriots will be home for the holidays to greet the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Saturday, Hi-Plains ended up a good deal behind Briggsdale and lost 55-37. While losing is never fun, Hi-Plains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Briggsdale is ranked 35th).
Defeat or not, Hi-Plains got some senior leadership from Caelan Church who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and Brooklynn Henschel who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that Church scored 15 or more points. Cloe Smith was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five steals.
Hi-Plains struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Genoa-Hugo/Karval came up short against Flagler on Tuesday and fell 39-32.

Hi-Plains beat Genoa-Hugo/Karval 41-33 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Will Hi-Plains repeat their success, or does Genoa-Hugo/Karval have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
