Baseball Game Preview: Fountain Valley Barons vs. Los Alamitos Griffins

The Fountain Valley Barons will square off against the Los Alamitos Griffins at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fountain Valley has three straight victories, Los Alamitos has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Fountain Valley earned a 6-3 win over Marina. That's two games straight that the Barons have won by exactly three runs.

Nathan Martinez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Isaac Grimaldo was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isaac Lomeli, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Fountain Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Los Alamitos came up short against Mira Costa on Thursday and fell 4-1.

Los Alamitos' defeat dropped their record down to 15-8-2. As for Fountain Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.

Fountain Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Los Alamitos when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Will the Barons repeat their success, or do the Griffins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
