League recap: Cedar Bluff win leads to rise in state rank

Cedar Bluff moved up to 191 from 221 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A Region 7.

Spring Garden extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Woodville, 48-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Panthers.

Gaylesville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cole Murphy threw for 22 yards and Matthew Herrin had 22 yards receiving. On the ground John David Jennings chipped in 206 yards.

Gaylesville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Murphy has thrown for 358 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Malachii Dutton has 10 catches for 167 yards. Jennings leads the league in rushing with 999 yards.

The Trojans' Jennings is a mere one yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

A big matchup in 1A Region 7 this week will be when Collinsville takes on Spring Garden. At the moment, the Panthers are in third, while John Mckay's team is in first.

The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,790 from 7,817.
