Baseball Recap: Onaga Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Onaga ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Doniphan West Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buffaloes have posted since March 28, 2024.

Jackson Kolterman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Onaga: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Kolterman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Kolterman wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Casen Hutfles, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Onaga and bumps their season record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Doniphan West, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat the Mustangs by a score of 4-3 later that day.
