Softball Recap: Wheat Ridge Farmers vs. Denver North Vikings

Wheat Ridge won against Fountain-Fort Carson last Saturday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Wheat Ridge Farmers were the clear victor by a 16-6 margin over the Denver North Vikings. The Farmers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.

Haley Cross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive pitching appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Evelyn Detwiler was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Skarlette Arenas was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Wheat Ridge knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten run or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Alameda likes a good challenge. As for Denver North, they will challenge George Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Denver North has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
