Basketball Recap: Cabrillo Piles Up the Points Against Royal

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cabrillo walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat the Royal Highlanders 65-38. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Highlanders are ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mason Johnson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Lincoln Dean was another key player, to rack up 15 points.

Royal lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ace Arnold, who earned 13 points. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucas Markand, who put up 11 points.

Cabrillo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. Royal's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-15.

Cabrillo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-46 win against Valencia on the 14th. Royal does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
