The Cornerstone Family Saints suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were dealt a 65-27 defeat at the hands of University Academy Charter. Cornerstone Family's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Cornerstone Family's loss came despite strong showings from Kaylee Heinen and Lana Smittick. Heinen scored 14 points along with eight steals, while Smittick scored nine points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Heinen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.
Cornerstone Family's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.2 points per game. As for University Academy Charter, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Family will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Heritage Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for University Academy Charter, they will challenge Sumner Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
