Basketball Recap: Penquis Valley Comes Up Short

Penquis Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Mattanawcook Lynx 87-48. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 78-41 back in December of 2024.

Mattanawcook's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kooper McCarthy led the charge by going 9 of 13 en route to 21 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Avery Jordan, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 20 points.

Penquis Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Mattanawcook, the win keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Penquis Valley will head out on the road to face off against Piscataquis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Penquis Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mattanawcook, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Woodland at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Mattanawcook's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while Woodland has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
