Softball Game Preview: Hilmar Yellowjackets vs. Santa Teresa Saints

The Hilmar Yellowjackets will take on the Santa Teresa Saints in a tournament on Saturday. Hilmar has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Hilmar managed to slip by Atwater the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Hilmar came up short against Atwater on Wednesday, falling 13-6.

Camryn Mattos was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Karley Segura also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Hilmar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Santa Teresa fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Valley Christian on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Santa Teresa saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savanna Herbst, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-5.

Hilmar's record is now 2-2. As for Santa Teresa, their record is now 1-1.

Hilmar suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Santa Teresa in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Hilmar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
