Football Preview: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Fernley Vaqueros

The Churchill County Greenwave will venture away from home to square off against the Fernley Vaqueros at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Churchill County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Fernley likes a good challenge.

Churchill County's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Dayton 53-0. The win continues a trend for the Greenwave in their matchups with the Dust Devils: they've now won six in a row.

Meanwhile, Fernley won against Spring Creek back in September with 38 points and they decided to stick to that point total again last Saturday. The Vaqueros walked away with a 38-29 victory over Truckee. Given the Vaqueros' advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked eighth in Nevada, while the Wolverines are ranked 145th in California) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fernley had a senior duo take command as Bryce Stephens rushed for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries and Keeshawn Love rushed for 178 yards and one score. Love's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 15th straight game with at least 122 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Churchill County's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Fernley, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Churchill County couldn't quite get it done against Fernley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 31-21. Can the Greenwave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
