Baseball Game Preview: University Wildcats vs. Westchester Comets

University and Westchester are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Comets at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

University will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Hamilton, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats walked away with a 4-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Yankees on their field since April 17, 2024.

Angel Huerta made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for University: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-12 otherwise. Huerta was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Huerta wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was DJ Pichetrungsi, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Westchester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Fairfax.

Westchester's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for University, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

University beat Westchester 8-5 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
