Josiah Sims had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 197 yards and three scores while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 112 rushing yards per game.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Newington proved: they limited Edwin O. Smith to a paltry 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Heath Weeden for the heroic effort on defense: he. Newington didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.6.
Newington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaden Manguel and Weeden. Weeden has been hot for a while, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last 16 times he's played.
Meanwhile, RHAM was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Bristol Eastern, falling 38-8. The Raptors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-0.
Newington pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points over those games. As for RHAM, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
Everything came up roses for Newington against RHAM in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 29-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nor'easters since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
