Baseball Recap: Alamo Heights Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Alamo Heights, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Veterans Memorial Patriots on Tuesday. With that win, the Mules brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Davis Zunker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Bader, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Alamo Heights is 2-0-1 when Bader posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luke Spielhagen, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

With the victory, Alamo Heights broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4-1. As for Veterans Memorial, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Alamo Heights will be playing in front of their home fans against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Veterans Memorial, they are taking a road trip to face off against Burbank at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
