Preview: Kit Carson Wildcats vs. Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates
Kit Carson is 6-1 against Genoa-Hugo/Karval since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Kit Carson Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates at 2:00 p.m. Hopefully Kit Carson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
Kit Carson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight defeat. They took a 60-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of McClave. Kit Carson has struggled against McClave recently, as their game on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Kit Carson saw an underclassman step up: Avery Johnson scored 15 points. Johnson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Payge Booker-rady, who scored eight points.
Kit Carson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Genoa-Hugo/Karval was able to grind out a solid victory over Deer Trail on Friday, taking the game 34-25.
Kit Carson's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.
Kit Carson beat Genoa-Hugo/Karval 40-30 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Kit Carson repeat their success, or does Genoa-Hugo/Karval have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
