Basketball Recap: Marcos de Niza Takes a Loss

After soaring to 55 points the game before, Marcos de Niza was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. The game between them and the Glendale Cardinals didn't end well, with the Marcos de Niza Padres falling 36-22. The Padres were probably out for revenge after losing 40-37 to them when the teams met back in November of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Marcos de Niza saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abigail Cooper posted eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Cooper has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tammie Wagner, who put up three points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Marcos de Niza smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Marcos de Niza has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Glendale, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Marcos de Niza will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Vista Grande at 10:00 a.m. on December 27th. As for Glendale, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-40 victory against Cortez on the 17th.
