Basketball Recap: Jakyra Sadler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ashbrook over South Point

Ashbrook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 69-46 to the South Point Red Raiders. The Greenwave were probably out for revenge after losing 55-31 to them when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Greenwave players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakyra Sadler, who went 10 of 22 on her way to 24 points and six rebounds. That was a full 52.2% of Ashbrook's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of AriAnnA Mcdowell, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ashbrook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Ashbrook's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for South Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashbrook will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. South Point and Palisades will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. South Point is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
