Football Preview: Coal City Coalers vs. Johnsburg Skyhawks
The Coal City Coalers will stay at home for another week and welcome the Johnsburg Skyhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Coal City's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Manteno 49-0. The Coalers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Johnsburg). They blew past Harvard 53-20 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Skyhawks who have now won four games in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Johnsburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Block, who threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brett Centnarowicz helped Block out on the ground, rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Johnsburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 239 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August.
Coal City pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Johnsburg, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
