Neshoba Central was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A Region 2. Earlier in the week, the Rockets triumphed over Lanier 51-8.
Starkville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Callaway, 34-16. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Yellowjackets.
Chris Mitchell was the best wideout in the league this week as the Chargers lost to Starkville. Mitchell tallied four receptions for 94 yards. Kendrick Catchings helped Callaway's passing attack out by catching three balls for 34 yards.
Gabe Myles put up the best numbers through the air as the Yellowjackets bested Callaway. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 118 yards and three touchdowns. Myles' favorite target this week was Kentrell Spencer, who caught six passes for 81 yards.
Gary Adams was the most productive running back in 5A Region 2 this week. He ran for 195 yards on 31 carries as Ridgeland fell to Starkville. Parker Lohman also contributed to the rushing game with 45 yards on the ground.
5-foot-10 quarterback DeJuan Ellis of Provine is the league leader in passing yards this season with 888. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Titans' Adams has rushed for 1116 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dayall Harris. The Callaway star has 25 catches for 424 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Yellowjackets take on Neshoba Central. Starkville is in first place, while Chuck Friend's team is in fourth place.
The Rockets took down the Bulldogs 51-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
