Softball Recap: Cottondale Sets Scoring Season-High Against Marianna

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cottondale). They blew past the Marianna Bulldogs 17-4 on Monday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Annelise Skipper and Chrishaunna Dawson were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Skipper struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Dawson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Skipper has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. At bat, Skipper got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI, while Dawson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Dawson has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maycee Griffin, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kaylee Cripes was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Cottondale is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Marianna, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

As of now, neither Cottondale nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
