Basketball Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Comes Up Short

Academy of Our Lady of Peace came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the High Tech SD Storm, falling 72-42. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Storm this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-52 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Academy of Our Lady of Peace lost, don't look at Sydney Thomas. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. Thomas has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

Even though they lost, Academy of Our Lady of Peace smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as High Tech SD only pulled down nine offensive boards.

High Tech SD found their leader in freshman Poema Strong, who posted 30 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Strong has scored at least a third of High Tech SD's points. Another player making a difference was Aliya Khalighi, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points and six steals.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace dropped their record down to 4-23 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for High Tech SD, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-12.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-29 loss against Hoover on the 13th. As for High Tech SD, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-56 defeat against San Diego on the 13th.
