Soccer Game Preview: Jackson Day vs. NCSSM: Morganton

The Jackson Day Mariners are taking a road trip to take on the NCSSM: Morganton Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Jackson Day lost 10-1 to Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Jackson Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy are ranked 87th).

Jackson Day's goal came courtesy of Caden Merritt, who's now up to four this season.

Meanwhile, for the first time since back in August, NCSSM: Morganton was forced to settle for a draw on Monday. They and Queen's Grant finished up on equal footing with a 0-0 draw.

This is the second loss in a row for Jackson Day and nudges their season record down to 10-9. With that draw, NCSSM: Morganton's record moves to 10-6-2.

Jackson Day beat NCSSM: Morganton by a goal in their previous meeting back in August, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
