Basketball Recap: Chartwell Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Chartwell unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 64-23 loss at the hands of the Contra Costa Christian Cougars. The Bulldogs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Gerrit Johnston, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 21 boards for Contra Costa Christian. Johnston is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Faber, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

The win got Contra Costa Christian back to even at 2-2.

Chartwell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 69-7 loss against Making Waves Academy on the 6th. As for Contra Costa Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-45 defeat against San Francisco Waldorf on the 6th.
