Basketball Recap: Wilkinson County Gets the Win

After losing to Hancock Central the last time they met, Wilkinson County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Wilkinson County Warriors made off with a 67-66 win over the Hancock Central Bulldogs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Despite the loss, Hancock Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josiah Ingram went 11 for 16 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Hancock Central's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontriel Grable, who earned nine points.

Wilkinson County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Hancock Central, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7.

Wilkinson County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-38 victory against Wilcox County on the 4th. As for Hancock Central, they will challenge Twiggs County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hancock Central has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
