Basketball Recap: Martinsville Takes a Loss

Martinsville lost against Greenfield-Central back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Martinsville Artesians were dealt a 102-62 loss at the hands of the Greenfield-Central Cougars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (61), the Artesians still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Martinsville still got an impressive performance from Grady Gardner, who went 8-for-15 from beyond the arc to rack up 30 points. The match was Gardner's sixth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zhane Capshaw, who went 6-for-9 en route to 13 points.

It was another big night for Braylon Mullins, who went 23-for-33 on his way to 52 points in addition to eight boards and four steals for Greenfield-Central. The dominant performance gave Mullins a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Michael Johnson, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Martinsville's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Greenfield-Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martinsville will challenge Northview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martinsville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Northview likes a good challenge. As for Greenfield-Central, they will venture away from home to take on Perry Meridian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
