Recap: Jasper County Hurricanes vs. Oglethorpe County Patriots
The Jasper County Hurricanes were the 32-14 winner over the Oglethorpe County Patriots when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Jasper County took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oglethorpe County on Friday. Jasper County's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaidon Whidby, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Demonte Greene also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Oglethorpe County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jake Turner led the charge by rushing for 215 yards and a touchdown. Turner has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. Jayden Wallace was another key contributor, throwing for 217 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt.
Jasper County's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Oglethorpe County, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jasper County will take on Commerce at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Commerce will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. As for Oglethorpe County, they will head out on the road to face off against Elbert County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Elbert County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oglethorpe County in Georgia (Elbert County is ranked 154th, while Oglethorpe County is ranked 337th).
