Basketball Recap: Hempstead Takes a Loss

Hempstead lost against Wahlert back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. 2025 welcomed the Hempstead Mustangs with a 63-43 loss courtesy of the Wahlert Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 26th).

Hempstead's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Wahlert, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hempstead will venture away from home to take on Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Washington: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Hempstead has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Wahlert, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Wahlert Golden Eagles challenge the Jefferson Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
