The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Morristown-Hamblen East came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Morristown-Hamblen West is ranked 192nd).
Morristown-Hamblen East lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hailey Hall, who scored 13 points along with four steals. The match was Hall's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Hudson Cloninger was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Morristown-Hamblen East's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Morristown-Hamblen West, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
