Banneker comes up short despite Rainelle McNeill's dominant performance

Recap: Banneker Bulldogs vs. Archbishop Carroll Lions

On Tuesday, the Banneker Bulldogs faced the Archbishop Carroll Lions in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Banneker was dealt a 69-23 loss at the hands of Archbishop Carroll. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Banneker has scored all season.

When it comes to explaining why Banneker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rainelle McNeill. Despite the final result, she scored seven points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kia Koerts, who scored six points.

Archbishop Carroll got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tiayo Adelekan out in front who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Heidi Williams was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 steals and seven rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Banneker and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Archbishop Carroll, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Banneker won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cardozo at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd. As for Archbishop Carroll, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against St. John's at 6:00 p.m. St. John's is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
