Softball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for West Jefferson

West Jefferson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Upper Arlington, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Roughriders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Golden Bears a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. Fans of the Roughriders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Jenna Mannon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, West Jefferson let Maddie Carruthers and Payton Kincade run wild. Carruthers scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Kincade scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Carruthers a new career-high in RBI (three). Hailey McBrayer also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

West Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

West Jefferson's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average this season. As for Upper Arlington, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Jefferson will challenge Catholic Central at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Upper Arlington, they will face off against Olentangy Berlin at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Golden Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
