Baseball Recap: Wellborn Find Success

Wellborn's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Faith Christian Lions. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ashton Woodard was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Sawyer Thomas looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, JD Talley was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Liam Avery, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Wellborn picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Faith Christian, they dropped their record down to 2-1 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Wellborn will be playing at home against Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Faith Christian, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions take on the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Christian is facing Weaver at the right time seeing as Weaver is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
