Baseball Game Preview: Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets vs. Calexico Bulldogs

The Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets will face off against the Calexico Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palo Verde Valley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Palo Verde Valley saw some tournament action on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Gridley.

Jaydon Castillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wesly Dill and Aiden Cano did most of the damage at the plate: Dill scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Cano scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kole White, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Calexico came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Crusaders by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Calexico also got a great performance from David Lara as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joshua Apodaca, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Ander Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Palo Verde Valley's victory bumped their record up to 11-6-1. As for Calexico, their win bumped their record up to 13-3-1.
