Football Recap: Servite Wins High-Profile Contest Against Orange Lutheran + How To Watch

Servite faced Orange Lutheran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Friars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-28 victory over the Lancers. This was payback for the Friars, who suffered a 38-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Servite's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kale Murphy led the charge by throwing for 164 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Murphy a new career-high in passer rating (142.5). Mataua Niumata also helped with two scores in total.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Niumata, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Orange Lutheran lost, don't look at Reagan Toki. Despite the final result, he rushed for 52 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 203 yards and one TD.

Servite's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Orange Lutheran, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Servite and Orange Lutheran will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Friars see the field they'll take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for Orange Lutheran, their break will end when they face St. John Bosco at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
