Football Recap: Athens Drive Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Athens Drive had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-9 to make it ten. They took a blow against the Broughton Capitals, falling 41-6. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Capitals are ranked 87th).

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamari Bridges, who rushed for 109 yards on only 12 carries.

As for Broughton, they now have a winning record of 5-4. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Athens Drive: they've now won seven in a row.

Broughton found their leader in sophomore Austin Youngs, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and also picked up 34 receiving yards and one score. Another rusher making a difference was Chase Coppedge, who rushed for 49 yards and one TD.

Looking ahead, Athens Drive will head out on the road to square off against Wakefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars will be up against the Wolverines' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43.67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Broughton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Leesville Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pride's defense has only allowed 12.2 points per game this season, so the Capitals' offense will have their work cut out for them.
