Basketball Game Preview: Central Cobras vs. Vero Beach Indians

For the first time this season, Central will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After both having extra time off, they and the Vero Beach Indians will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Central proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 45) and last Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Palm Beach Lakes 44-42.

CHAUNCIONA DAVIS was the offensive standout of the game as she posted 14 points and six boards. Those six rebounds gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was ARIAH STEPLIN, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards.

Meanwhile, after only 23 points in their last matchup, Vero Beach made sure to put some points up on the board against Somerset College Prep Academy last Thursday. The Indians blew past the Spartans 72-12. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Indians had established a 54-point advantage.

Central better focus on containing Miyana Penny and Zynoria Ferguson as the pair were huge in Vero Beach's win. Penny shot 90% from the field on her way to 23 points, while Ferguson went 5-for-6 en route to 11 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. Ferguson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Adriana Colina was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Vero Beach now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Central, their record is now 2-0.

Central beat Vero Beach 59-46 in their previous matchup back in January. Do the Cobras have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
