Basketball Recap: Hartsville Takes a Loss

Hartsville was the 51-38 winner over Lower Richland when they last played one another back in February of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Hartsville Red Foxes fell 51-43 to the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets on Tuesday. While the Red Foxes didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Diamond Hornets 16-9 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Hartsville lost, don't look at Zaries Huggins. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Zi'Yon Mason, who put up five points.

Even though they lost, Hartsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Hartsville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Lower Richland, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8.

Hartsville will venture away from home to square off against Crestwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lower Richland, they will host Wilson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
