Softball Recap: Spotswood Comes Up Short

Spotswood had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Ewing Blue Devils by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Chargers have suffered since April 10th.

Gabby Hill was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Ella Calandruccio also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Ewing, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Ewing's side, Abby Singer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Ewing's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emily Gamboa Ordini, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Morgan Dwyer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Coming up, Spotswood will venture away from home to take on J.P. Stevens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ewing, they will welcome Notre Dame at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
