League recap: Hammer races to league-leading run for Alexander Central

4A/3A Conference 3 recap September 24, 2013

Landon Hammer of Alexander Central ran for the longest rushing play in 4A/3A Conference 3 this season against St. Stephens last week. Hammer ran for 76 yards on the play and finished with 214 on the day as his team bested the Indians.

Statesville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Greyhounds defeated Lexington 35-6.

TYREE WARD was the best wideout in the league this week as Statesville beat the Yellowjackets. WARD tallied 6 receptions for 75 yards. BREVIN RENWICK helped Statesville's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 47 yards.

Alex Crosby put up the best numbers through the air as South Iredell bested Salisbury. He finished with 5 completions for 65 yards and 3 touchdowns. Crosby's favorite target this week was Jaylon Stockton, who caught 3 passes for 39 yards.

Hammer was the best running back in 4A/3A Conference 3 this week. Teammate Jacob Reese added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.

Hammer provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Alexander Central topped St. Stephens. Hammer's key target this week was Lawson Bowman, who caught 2 passes for 55 yards.

Hammer was a force in the backfield as Nick Bazzle's team bested Chris Bunting's team.

5-foot-11 quarterback TRAVIS RAMSEUR of Randall Gusler's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 873. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Corey Joyner. The Lake Norman star has 26 catches for 526 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when North Lincoln takes on the Vikings. The Knights are currently in seventh, while South Iredell is in first.

Scott Miller's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Hornets, 56-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
