Softball Game Preview: Webster County Trojans vs. Hopkins County Central Storm

Webster County is 9-1 against Hopkins County Central since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Storm at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Webster County came up short against Christian County on Tuesday, falling 8-2. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Colonels: they've now lost seven in a row.

Chloe Papineau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kennedy Warren made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Olivia Chandler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Hopkins County Central was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They lost 12-1 to Todd County Central.

Hopkins County Central dropped their record down to 1-10-1 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Webster County, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Everything went Webster County's way against Hopkins County Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Webster County made off with an 11-0 win. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
