Preview: North Brunswick Scorpions vs. Hoggard Vikings

North Brunswick is 0-10 against Hoggard since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The North Brunswick Scorpions' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hoggard Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, North Brunswick strolled past Heide Trask with points to spare, taking the game 48-33. Given North Brunswick's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Heide Trask is ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North Brunswick's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dari?elle Young, who scored 9 points along with 5 assists. Young is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Gomez, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.

Meanwhile, Hoggard put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 53-11 victory over Southern Nash. The result was nothing new for Hoggard, who have now won five matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hoggard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristan Shivers, who scored 15 points along with 6 assists. The matchup was Shivers' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anna Chance (XP), who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.

North Brunswick is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Hoggard, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: North Brunswick have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hoggard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. North Brunswick was dealt a bruising 66-4 loss at the hands of Hoggard when the teams last played back in January. Thankfully for North Brunswick, Anya Massey (who scored 19 points along with 3 blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
