Preview: Cabrillo Conquistadores vs. Mercy Bears
Having just played yesterday, the Cabrillo Conquistadores will jump right back in to play the Mercy Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cabrillo is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 11 games.
Cabrillo has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 49-22 stomp they got on the road against Everett Alvarez. With Cabrillo ahead 27-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cabrillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rylie Jenkins, who scored 12 points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie McCune, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Mercy suffered a rough 55-33 defeat at the hands of San Mateo on December 13th. Mercy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Mercy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.
Cabrillo couldn't quite finish off Mercy in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 and fell 41-38. Thankfully for Cabrillo, Katie Callagy (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
