Basketball Recap: K'lila Sellers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbia over Lawrence County

After flying high against Poplarville last Friday, Columbia came back down to earth. The Columbia Wildcats fell just short of the Lawrence County Cougars by a score of 45-42 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 49-32 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Columbia's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was K'Lila Sellers, who posted six points in addition to nine steals and seven boards. Columbia is 8-3 when Sellers posts five or more steals, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sariya Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Lawrence County, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia will take on Purvis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbia is facing Purvis at the right time seeing as Purvis is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Lawrence County has already played their next matchup (against Magee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
