Softball Preview: CALS Early College Falcons vs. University Prep Value Wolves
CALS Early College is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out to challenge the University Prep Value Wolves at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (CALS Early College has four straight wins, University Prep Value has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, CALS Early College made easy work of Maywood CES and carried off a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won four matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alyssa Arrenquin was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Amarisa Gonzales was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double.
CALS Early College always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maywood CES only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, University Prep Value lost 22-11 to Community Charter last Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly 11 runs.
CALS Early College's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for University Prep Value, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
CALS Early College skirted past University Prep Value 8-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for CALS Early College since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
