Anthony Brunetti leads the way to Titans victory.
Paced by an explosive rushing attack and a stingy defense, Holy Trinity remained undefeated with a 35-3 rout of Kellenberg at Hofstra University on Friday night. Senior Anthony Brunetti had 162 yards and scored twice for the Titans. Louis Cotrone added 113 yards on 12 carries and also found the end zone twice.
The Titans got off to a quick start when Kellenberg fumbled the opening kickoff. Cotrone pounced on the loose ball at the Firebirds 30-yard line. Seven plays later Brunetti scored the first of his two touchdowns with a four-yard run. The PAT was good.
However, the Firebirds would come right back and cut the Titan lead to 7-3 when Ryan Harkins hit a 22-yard field goal, which capped off a 12- play 79-yard drive. On Holy Trinity’s next drive, they drove the ball down to the Kellenberg seven-yard line. The drive stalled when kicker Patrick Dreiss missed a field goal attempt as the first quarter came to an end.
The Titans scored on their first possession of the second quarter on a 14- yard run by Cotrone. This was set up by a 39-yard strike from freshman quarterback Chris Laviano to Jason Shockness. The rest of the half was sloppy as both teams turned the ball over twice. Holy Trinity went into the locker room with a 14-3 lead at the half.
The second half was all Titans. Cotrone capped off a seven-play, 74-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown run to get things started to give Trinity a 21-3 lead. Brunetti and Rob Zecker added touchdowns as the Titans improved to 2-0 overall (1-0 in CHSFL AAA league play). Kellenberg fell to 0-2.
Holy Trinity will travel to face Holy Cross next weekend.
